ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of climate change on outdoor recreational sports participation among residents in Benin City. A quantitative research approach was employed, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from 200 respondents. The questionnaire elicited information on the respondents’ demographic characteristics, outdoor recreational sports participation, and perceptions of climate change. The results showed that climate change has a significant impact on outdoor recreational sports participation, with temperature, rainfall, and humidity being the most significant factors. The study also revealed that the level of awareness and concern about climate change among residents was relatively low. The findings of this study have implications for policy makers, sports administrators, and individuals involved in outdoor recreational sports. Recommendations were made for strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on outdoor recreational sports participation.
