ABSTRACT

This study examines the impact of ASUU strike on the academic performance of students in Nigerian Universities: A case study University of Benin (UNIBEN). This study adopted the survey design which was used to source data from targeted sample of 169 respondents from University of Benin, Benin City.

The study adopted simple percentage to analyse the data from the field survey. The result revealed that ASUU has the tendency to affect students' academic performances even when the strike is called off. Most lecturers do complete the course outline when school resumes from strike, however, they shrink and skip instructional contents. There is significant difference in the time for completion of a course of study between private universities where there is no strike and public universities that experiences constant strike by ASUU.

The study recommends that government should liaise with ASUU to make resource available for stability of educational programme.  ASUU strike can be resolve if their demands are fully met by the government of the day. The government should setup continues monitory committee for ASUU’s welfare on a sustainable basis. The government and ASUU should be aligning with the basic welfare of the Academic body as to bring stability to academic sector.
