ABSTRACT

Education proceeds all historical forms of technological, social and economic advancements. To this end, age, being irreversible and definitive should not be a limiting factor to the planning and reception of learning processes targeted towards communal growth and the emergence of civilizations. This research is centered on assessing the effectiveness of adult education in mitigating illiteracy among the adult population in Egor Local Government Area (LGA).

By scrutinizing the extent to which adult education has significantly contributed to the reduction of illiteracy among adults in this community, valuable insights that can be used by researchers and academics are inferred and useful deductions tabulated. Data collection involved the distribution and retrieval of 150 questionnaires, forming the basis of our research. The data was analysed using simple percentage methods.

As illustrated by the results of this study, adult education programs have substantially improved the literacy levels of adults in Egor LGA. It is evident that these programs have played a pivotal role in this positive transformation. As a recommendation, it is crucial that adequate funding is allocated to support the seamless operation of adult education initiatives, as funding constraints were identified as a significant challenge. Encouraging active participation of adults in these programs, especially with the support of local leaders and the government, is essential to ensure maximal benefits and an enhanced quality of life for the community.
