ABSTRACT
This project is aimed at assessing the impact of forensic evidence in Nigeria Criminal justice system; over the past twenty five years the forensic sciences have made dramatic scientific breakthrough in the area of DNA analysis, fingerprints analysis, ballistics, forensic accounting, forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, and computer forensics. The purpose for this research arose out of the increased crime rate and the problem faced by agencies of the Nigeria criminal justice system while trying to stop the occurrence of such crime. The basic design of this study/material, and method is basically doctrinal, library oriented, this is because forensic science is a new concept to Nigeria criminal justice system and it will be necessary to provide a systematic exposition of its nature character and principle as provided through the help of this method. I shall place reliance on textbooks, case laws, certain laws of the federation, articles, journals and relevant materials sourced online. major findings and analysis, in the course of this research, it was found that establishing certain types of evidence such as fingerprint impressions and DNA against accused persons was a very difficult due to the absence of forensic laboratories, therefore hinder the conviction of such persons, in the light of this, the research recommended Inter alia for proper training of law enforcement agencies in terms of how crime and crime scenes are handled.
