Abstract
This study examines the impact of lockdown on income earners in the private sector in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state. The population for this study consisted of all private secondary schools in Ovia North
East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of one hundred and ninety two (192). Selecting six (6) teachers, both men and women randomly from each of the 32 private schools.
The findings revealed that the lockdown had bad effects on income earners in Ovia north east local government area of Edo state especially the teachers, it was also revealed that government initiatives put in place to assist income earners in the private sector during the lockdown in Ovia north east local government area of Edo state had no effects. It was recommended that Salaries paid to private school teachers in Nigeria should be reviewed and adjusted according to the country’s minimum wage. Being the largest employer of labor, the government may set a
standard salary structure which may serve as reference for private institutions. In this way there will be less underpayment of hard working citizens and the attrition from private school teaching can be minimized.
