This study has discovered that the historical roots, triggers, key actors, and profound effects of the Itsekiri-Ijaw conflict. The conflict was deeply rooted in the historical interactions and grievances between the Itsekiri and Ijaw communities, whose coexistence had been marked by periods of cooperation and conflict. The conflict was ignited by specific triggers and catalysts, including disputes over oil-rich territories, competition for fishing rights, political manipulation, the influence of oil corporations, and the emergence of local militant groups. Various actors, from community leaders and political figures to traditional rulers and militant groups, played pivotal roles in shaping the course of the conflict. The instrumentalization of ethnic tensions by political actors and the actions of multinational oil corporations further exacerbated the crisis. The consequences of the conflict were far-reaching, encompassing a tragic loss of lives, displacement of communities, economic disruption, destruction of infrastructure, social and psychological trauma, and environmental degradation. Children`s education were particularly affected, and inter-ethnic relations in the region were strained.
