ABSTRACT
The Research was carried out within Iru Ekpen and Ekpoma and it lies between longitudes 60 02ʹ 30ʺ and 60 16ʹ 30 and latitudes 60 39ʹ 00ʺand 60 48ʹ 00ʺ N. Random sampling techniques was employed in choosing water samples from the surface and ground water in parts of Ekpoma and its environment. Heavy metals were determined using the Atomic absorption spectrometer.The result of study showed heavy metal concentration in ground water with Fe with range between (0.075-0.175), Mn with range (0.032-0.081), Cu with range (0.22-0.066), Cr with range (0.008-0.021) and pb (0.006-0.40) respectively with microbes like Streptococcus sp, E.coli, Enterobacter sp.Bacillus sp are present in the water system of the study area. The results gotten from the study of ground and surface water showed that the water quality in this area is generally potable due to the fact that the concentration of metals present meet up or falls within the WHO standard regulation. However it can be suggested that water in this location when drilled should be drilled at greater depth and water treatments should be adopted before water usage.
