ABSTRACT
Picralima nitida plant extract has been studied for its potential antioxidant properties, which involves scavenging hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The research explores the hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity of Picralima nitida stem bark extract, aiming to assess its ability to neutralize hydrogen peroxide, a significant reactive oxygen species linked to oxidative stress, which result in lipid peroxidation, cellular and DNA damage , and this is implicated in diseases such as Cancer. Picralima nitida stem bark extract contain phytochemicals such as phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and proanthocyanins. Flavonoids and Tannins have a high antioxidant activity, and scavenge free radicals such as H2O2 by electron donation, antioxidant enzyme activation and metal chelation mechanisms. This research contributes to our understanding of the potential health benefits of Picralima nitida stem bark extract, which offers insights into its application in nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, designed to combat oxidative stress-related disorders.
