ABSTRACT
This study examines and assesses the Geomorphologic Hazard and Environmental Impact of Quarrying along the Benin by-pass in Benin City, Edo State. The study involved the collection and analysis of data from the residents and sand mining site workers, which formed the basis of the questionnaire administered to the sample population in which 20 and 30 were administered respectively. The statistical techniques employed were the chi-square and correlation statistic. The outcome of the analysis confirmed that there is no correlation between the economic benefit and environmental impact of sand mining and there is no significant relationship between the health of residents, workers and sand mining operations. Finally some suggestions and recommendations anchor on the need for the government to make policy that can marry geomorphic impact assessment, environmental management and economic development, with a view to enhance sustainable development in the study area in particular and Nigeria at large.
