ABSTRACT
Nigeria has more natural gas resources than it does proven crude oil reserves, making it a more powerful energy source. Furthermore, there was no conscious attempt made to look for natural gas at the time; the gas was found while looking for crude oil. Only a tiny portion of Nigeria's gas reservoir, estimated at around 206 trillion cubic feet (tcf) at present time, is being used. Due to Nigeria's large natural gas reserves, it is crucial for the socioeconomic growth of Nigeria to fully use this enormous energy source. It is possible to handle and process gas using a variety of technology and engineering approaches, as demonstrated in the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Canada. Due to the fact that the bulk of Nigeria's gas was discovered when drilling for crude oil, the country produces inefficient amounts of gas. The production of gas from both conventional and unconventional natural gas sources must adhere to best practices to protect the environment of the host communities. In light of this and the numerous uses for natural gas, production from traditional sources will not be enough to meet demand since the production of natural gas from unconventional sources is the way of the future.
