ABSTRACT
concept of life and existence is not static, rather it is progressive with lent and phases. Each of the phases are characterized by rituals and ceremonies are peculiar to that phase, these rituals grant the individual access into that ;ular phase. The four transitional ritual stages include; birth, puberty, adulthood death. The movement from one stage or phase of life to another in African ional religion is usually known as the "Passage rites" which plays a crucial role African Socialization, demarking the different stages in an individual's growth development and the person's intimacy with the community at large. These four sitional phases/stages have high socio-religious undertone. Hence the purpose of study is to investigate the socio-religion concept of the four transitional phases of in Mbaise, which is shrinking due to the effects of civilization. This work jloyed the analytical and descriptive methodology. Various method of data lection was employed to ensure the reliability of the data gathered. These includes: I interview and reviewed literature. This research work revealed the following: t practice of rites of passage is a social reality, which is culturally normative in pise. This African rites of passage or initiation unites the individual and the munity and the community to the larger and more potent spirit world.
