ABSTRACT

The present study examined the filmmaking as the major contributors to the negative values and the problem of film making as a decadence of immorality and corruption of culture as the ideology of most Nigerians. This study clarified how a filmmaker made use of a well structured film as a tool to effect maintenance, sustenance and development in Nigeria cultural practices using Kunle Afolayan as a case study. The research was conducted on the filmmaker- Kunle Afolayan and his use of his films “October 1st” and “The Figurine” on how the filmmaking business has changed that thought. A Literary review of past works was studied, where conceptual and theoretical framework was developed. A detailed content analysis on the movies were used as the instrument of research. Results show that the filmmaker sustain and promote socio-culture. The study concludes that the film “October 1st” and “The Figurine” has positively sustained and developed socio-culture in the Nigerian society.
