THE FACTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR PUPILS LATENESS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The general objective of this study is to investigate the factors responsible for pupils lateness in Benin metropolis .This study adopts descriptive research design, the population of the study is made up of all the primary school teachers in public primary schools in Benin metropolis. In order to provide a direction for the study, three research questions were raised. The instrument was used in generating data for the study was the questionnaire. The data generated from the administration of the questionnaire were analyzed with the use of mean score rating based on 2.5 acceptance region. From the analysis it was discovered that the extent of lateness to school among primary pupils in Benin metropolis is to a great extent, the impact of lateness to school among primary school pupils in Benin metropolis leads to poor academic performance of the pupils create burden for the academic environment, leads to poor students teacher relationship, continues to truancy and embarrasses both the school and the parents of the pupils involved. The factors responsible for pupils lateness to school includes but not limited to house chores, poor parental care, attitude of the pupils, teacher indifference attitudes and peer influence on the pupils.
