ABSTRACT
The study examined the effects of mother tongue interference in the study of English language in secondary schools in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State. A sample of 15 questionnaires was distributed to Heads of English Department in each school. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the study on the effects of mother tongue interference in the study of English Language in secondary schools within Enugu North Local Government Area has yielded significant insights into the challenges and strategies associated with English language instruction. The findings revealed the proactive measures taken by teachers to address the influence of mother tongue on students' English language proficiency. The study highlights the collaborative spirit among teachers and schools in sharing effective strategies, fostering a supportive environment for professional development. The assessment of English language teachers' proficiency, teaching methods, and utilization of resources reveals a positive trend.
