ABSTRACT

This study examined the impact of health talk on immunization compliance among mothers of children below 5 years in a Primary Health Care (PHC) family in Benin City. It employed a descriptive cross-sectional study research design. Using the convenient sampling technique, it sampled One hundred (100) mothers of under-five children who present at the immunization clinic in the PHC during the study period. A self-structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents based on the socio-demographic characteristics and the research objectives. Face and content validity technique was adopted for the instrument and a pretest of the instrument gave a correlation coefficient of 0.89. Data was analyzed using mean, frequencies and percentages and presented with the aid of tables and charts. Chi-square was be used in testing the hypotheses at a significance level of 0.05. The analysis was achieved using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0 for windows. The result from the study shows that majority of the respondents reported that about majority of respondents had the knowledge of immunization,61% reported that their main source of information on immunization was from the antenatal clinic. From this study it was deduce that 8% of respondent has less knowledge on immunization schedule .There was also no significant relationship between the educational status of mothers and the compliance to immunization schedule. Therefore ,this study implies that importance of health talk and immunization awareness should not be underrated.
