ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of excursions and field trips and students’ academic performance in History as a subject in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The method used in the collection of data was the questionnaire. A questionnaire form was constructed and distributed to one hundred (100) respondents in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The population for this study consisted of all senior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The data collected were analyzed and the result showed that field trips and excursions is beguiled with some challenges of which finances is part of. Also, overpopulation of students in schools is a challenge to organizing field trips and excursions. Based on these findings, recommendations were made on the following areas; teacher-training programmes should be organized for teachers in order to provide them with essential skills for teaching students in schools. Also, it was recommended that finances should be provided by parents to sponsor their children’s learning through field trips and excursions.
