ABSTRACT
This study is a survey work that used survey research design to examined the effect of Domestic Abuse on the effective learning of secondary school in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. The design adopted for this was the descriptive survey research method. A number of four research questions were raised to guide this study: What are possible causes of domestic Abuse in the homes? How does parent Lifestyle contribute to domestic Abuse in the Homes? What are the effects of domestic violence on the learning process of secondary school students? What are the remedies or ways in which domestic violence can be manage?
The population of this study was Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Benin City , Edo State , Nigeria. The sample size for this study is a total number of 100 Students adopting the simple random sampling technique. The data retrieved was critically examined for completeness and consistency. The data was analyzed with the use of percentage and frequency Tables.
From this research findings, it can be deduced that variables such as gender inequality syndrome, wrong cultural teachings, Misunderstanding among parents, brokens homes, absentee parenting, among which are causes of Domestic Abuse in the Homes and it has contributed to the ineffective and Learning and poor academic performances among the population of study. Looking at the effects of this factors or variables on Students Learning Process, it has led to truancy among secondary school students, none activeness in class, failures in academics and it has breed students who are half-baked academically, emotionally, socially and psychologically.
However, research question four of this study introduced feasible and calculative measures to be undertaken in order to curb, manage and reduce the effects of Domestic Abuse listed in Research question three above.
These measures if well carried out can help to reduce the effect of Domestic Abuse and also help manage the Victims of Domestic Abuse.
