ABSTRACT

This research work focuses on the effect of class size on students’ academic performance in senior secondary school in Ikpoba Okha local government of Edo State. The study was set up to determine secondary school students’ attitudes towards mathematics. To achieve this, a descriptive study was adopted which targeted­­­­ 10 selected public secondary in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample for the study was 150 respondents through purposive sample techniques. The information was gathered through the use of questionnaire. The questionnaire helped the researchers to have a wider view on the research problem. Simple frequency distribution and percentage was used to analyze the data. The questionnaire helped the researchers to have a wider view on the research problem. The result was analyzed using frequency distribution and mean. Base on the findings, the results showed that the learning, teaching and resources received in a large class is different from the teaching, learning and resources received in small class, teaching skills is neglected in large class size than smaller classes, and students in larger classes do not participate more actively than those in smaller classes. The researchers conclude that Government should increase budget allocation to improve schools infrastructural facilities and teachers and management of the school should employ rotational students’ group formation and study in Ikpoba Ohka local government; this will help to improve students’ academic performance.
