ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of Adult Education programs on women's involvement in Nigerian politics, specifically in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State. The objectives of the study were to identify the Adult Education in Igueben Local Government Area, determine the level of women's participation in politics in the area, examine the influence of Adult Education programs on women's political participation, and identify the factors affecting women's involvement in politics in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State. The research design used in this study was a descriptive survey. A sample size of 100 women was selected as respondents, using a simple random sampling technique. Each Adult Education program center contributed 25 respondents, including both instructors and learners. The primary data collection instrument used in this study was a questionnaire, titled "The role of Adult Education programs on women's participation in politics." The questionnaire was divided into two sections, A and B. Section A collected demographic data, while section B included questions to address the research objectives. The response scale used in the questionnaire was a yes or no scale. The research found that the Adult Education programs available in Igueben Local Government Area include basic literacy, retirement education, skill acquisition, civic education, and leadership development programs. However, there is a low level of women's participation in politics in this area. To increase women's participation in politics, specialized adult education programs can have a positive influence. Factors such as access to finance, marital status, religious beliefs, socio-economic conditions, and educational background affect women in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State. These factors can be addressed through appropriate Adult Education programs.
