ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to the effectiveness of visual aids in facilitating comprehension & retention of educational content three research questions were raised. The primary purpose of the study is to determine the extent to which visual aids enhance comprehension of educational content when compared to traditional verbal instruction. To investigate how different types of visual aids affect the retention of information among learners. The population of the study consists of Six hundred and forty Five (645) teachers drawn from five (5) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. This is shown in the table below; A target sample size of one hundred and twenty five (125) teachers was purposively selected and used for the study selected from the five (5) government secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The instrument for data collection for this study was a self-constructed close-ended questionnaire titled “The effectiveness of visual aids in facilitating comprehension & retention of educational content. The test-retest reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and the process yielded an index of 0.81 Data obtained from the study were analysed using mean and standard deviation., the following recommendations are made There should be empirical studies conducted across various educational settings, comparing comprehension and retention rates between groups exposed to visual aids and those without. There should be a focus on diverse types of visual aids, ranging from traditional tools like whiteboards and diagrams to modern technologies such as interactive simulations and virtual reality. There should be an analysis of different learning styles and how visual aids cater to each, acknowledging that individuals may have varying preferences for visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning.
