ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was designed to examine the effect of utilizing audiovisual aids in teaching and learning of Biology in Senior Secondary School in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study, six research questions were raised which are outlined thus: What is the effect of used audio-Visual aids and the teaching of biology in secondary schools? What is the effect of non-used audio-visual aids and the teaching of biology in secondary schools? Will school type affect the utilization of audiovisual aids in teaching and learning Biology? Will school location affect the utilization of audiovisual aids in teaching and learning biology? To what extent do the types of audio-visual aids affect the teaching and learning of biology in secondary schools? How does the accessibility of audio-visual aids affect the teaching and learning of biology in secondary schools?

From these six research questions, 30 items were raised in the questionnaire together with the data for this study and the questionnaire was subject to Cronbach alpha. The survey research design and experimental research design was used for this study. Population of the study consisted of secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

The findings from the study revealed that Audiovisual aids keeps them attentive throughout the whole lesson period, without the use of audiovisual aids, the lesson will be boring to them and their school type can afford audiovisual aids in teaching and learning Biology. And from the recommendation, it was recommended that government and other citizens should provide audio visual materials to secondary schools in Nigeria, experienced and qualified biology teachers at least with Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) should be employed to teach in secondary schools in Nigeria and school authorities should always checkmate whether teachers make use of audio-visual aids in teaching. If the above recommendations are implemented, there will be improvement in the utilization of audiovisual aids in teaching and learning of Biology in Senior Secondary School.
