ABSTRACT

This study delves into the exploration of literature as a tool for vocabulary development among junior secondary school students in Egor Local Government, Benin City, Edo State. Five pivotal research questions guided this investigation, aiming to illuminate the effectiveness of using literature in enriching the vocabulary skills of students in this region. Data collection was executed through the dissemination of questionnaires, randomly distributed across five distinct schools within the local government area. The analysis of this data was facilitated through fundamental statistical techniques, including simple frequency, percentage calculations, and means. These analyses were based on a four-point Likert scale. The population encompassed 1300 students, with a meticulously selected sample of 250 students drawn randomly from five diverse schools among the thirteen private senior secondary schools located in Egor Local Government, Benin, Edo State. This study not only offers insights into the potential of literature as a vehicle for vocabulary enhancement but also sheds light on the specific perceptions and experiences of junior secondary school students in this region.
