ABSTRACT
This study examines the effect of unrest in higher institution, a case study of University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state
Survey research design which is a non-experimental method was adopted for the study. Convenience sampling technique was used to select fifty (200) accessible students for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire; it was a self-designed instrument, built around the research questions and was validated by the researcher's. Its reliability value was established as 0.864, indicating that the instrument was reliable. The data collected for the research question was analyzed using simple percentage and mean
The study revealed that revealed that Quality of the Teaching Staff, Imposition of Rigid rules on Students, Lack of Communication between Administration and the students, High Charges of Fees and increment of school fees and Conflict between fellow students are causes of students’ unrest in University of Benin. the researcher therefore recommends that The school administration should improve the level of involvement of staff and students in the decision making process and other university affairs and respecting staff and students interests and rights and that There is a need to improve communication system between the Students’ Organisation, students and the university administration. The Students Organisation can be asked to write regular reports on students concerns so that can be given priority by the administration.
