ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact of Trichoderma, poultry manure and various watering regimes on the growth of cashew (Anacardium occidentale) seedlings. The study was carried out in a screenhouse at the faculty of agriculture, UNIBEN. The experiment is a factorial experiment using completely randomized design (CRD) involving four treatments (Treated soil + Treated seed, Untreated soil +Treated seed, Treated soil + Untreated seed, Untreated soil +Untreated seeds) and four (4) watering regimes (Daily, 3days, 5days, 7days) and was replicated three (3) times. The trichoderma used was isolated from soil samples obtained from Sapele road. Data was collected on the soil physical and chemical properties, plant morphological properties Number of leaves, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, root length collar girth as well as yield properties fresh weight and dry weight. Results indicates that Treated soil and Untreated seed (TrSo_UnSd) produced the highest mean root length (12.167cm). Daily watering proved the best watering regime producing a mean root length of 11.567cm, fresh weight of 14.23g, and dry weight of 8.386g. Based on the result obtained from the study, cashew seeds can be planted using treated soil with untreated seeds and watered daily.
