ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of the professional disposition/attitude on service delivery of Nurses in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Data was collected from a sample of six hundred and eleven (611) respondents from both the nurses and patients at the consultant out-patient department through questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics ( i.e percentage, mean and standard deviation).
The major findings from the data analyzed are that: Nurses at the consultant out-patient department have a very positive attitude towards work, they display their duties with a high level of contentment, enthusiasm, motivation e.t.c, the effect shows a high level of commitment which helps to solve the problem of dissatisfaction among patients/clients, that there are some obvious constraints in the display of nurses duties.
Finally, from the findings, suggestions were proffered, which included training and re-training of nurses to be abreast with the latest trend in the development of the profession, also infrastructure and equipment should be readily available for smooth running, there should be continuous bond that promotes positive disposition, the passion for nursing should be awakened by way of motivation so as to continue to affect and improve service delivery, the government and management should enact laws to protect healthcare workforce (mostly nurses) from physical assault and abuse.
