THE EFFECT OF TAXATION ON GRASSROOT DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This study examines taxation and grassroot development: a case study of Ekiadolor in Ovia North Local Government Area. The study adopted percentage statistical techniques to analyse the data sourced from the field. The result revealed that there is significant effect of taxation revenue on the development of grassroot (Ekiadolor) in Ovia North East Local Government Area, the result shows that there is significant relationship poor accountability and tax revenue and development of grassroot (Ekiadolor) in Ovia North East Local Government Area. it also shows that there is significant effect of inadequate revenue from taxation on development of grassroot (Ekiadolor) in Ovia North East Local Government Area. the result also shows that financial autonomy has no significant impact on development of grassroot (Ekiadolor) in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The study recommends that the local government should provide a means of sensitizing people on the need to pay their taxes. The study also recommends that the local government should improve their mode of collection of taxes from the people. The local government should provide infrastructural development for the people from the money accrued from taxation. The local government when putting any infrastructural development should try to tag such a development for people to see and read and acknowledge that at least the taxes collected from them are been used to develop their areas. The local government tax officials should improve the issuance of receipts to their tax payers. The local government tax officials should improve the sanctions and punishment of any tax payer who evades taxes. The local government tax officials should be bureaucratic in discharging their official work. In other words, they should be more focused on their delegated duties as tax officials.
