Over the years, studies has been carried out on the effects of various plants on intraocular pressure. However, the numerous benefits Dennettia tripetala on the eye are still unfolding. The work below is a comparism of the effect of its seeds and leaves on intraocular pressure. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of pepper fruit and leave aqueous extract on intraocular pressure using normotensive patients. 50 subjects was be used within the age of 18 – 60years, for the experiment. Intraocular pressure was measured using the Perkins tonometer before ingestion of the pepper fruit seeds extract for group A and pepper fruit leaves (Dennettia tripetala) group B and 30, 60 90 and 120 minutes after ingestion. The measurement will be carried out three times and the average is taken. Different doses of 50mg/kg and 50mg/kg body weight was used for group A and group B respectively, none of the extract was given to group C, only their baseline intraocular pressure was measured. The data obtained from this study was analysed using repeated measure Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) as processed by the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version 22.0. The result obtained has helped provide more knowledge in the management of increased intraocular pressure.
