ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effect of lockdown on skill acquisition programs for women in Egor local government area. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study.
A sample size which was made up of this study 50% of 202 which is 101 respondents drawn out of the population of 202 adult learners in skill acquisition Centres in Egor local government area of Edo state. The questionnaire was the major instrument used for the study and was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages
Findings of the study revealed that there is effective functional skill acquisition programme designed for women, acquisition programme has helped women to be self reliant and independent, there is high level of women participation in skill acquisition programmes and Bead making is functional skills acquisition programs for women. It was also revealed that the impacts of the skill acquisition programmes for women is by making them to be more productive and useful, exposing them to a better business ideas and opportunities and being financially stable. It was further recommended more awareness should be created by way of publicity in the various media outlets, using jingles and other forms of advertisement so that more women can be aware and participate in such programmes. It was further recommended that any post-COVID-19 recovery strategy will need to re-establish the conditions for a quick return to a path of economic growth, improved social contract, and overall human development that can foster more inclusive societies in the future.
