ABSTRACT

This study aimed at examining the Effect of Instructional Materials on Teaching and Learning Process in Secondary Schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample consisted of 100 students basically public secondary school students in the Local Government Area. Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 100 (one hundred) respondents which were basically students. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The test re-test method was adopted in testing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher himself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that instructional materials increases students’ engagement and motivation and have a positive impact on their academic achievement in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government. It was also revealed that student taught with instructional materials achieve higher score than those taught without the use of teaching aids. Based on the findings, it was recommended that government should provide instructional materials in schools to enable teachers use them in instruction. It was also recommended that government should establish resources centers to enable teachers borrow teaching aids which may not be in the schools.
