The effect of directors’ observable characteristics on firms performance

Summary

This study investigates the effect of directors’ observable characteristics on firms performance. The data for all the variables in the study was extracted from published annual reports and financial statements of the listed companies at the Nigerian stock exchange selected for the study covering the years 2016 to 2019. Specifically, data was collected from the annual reports particularly from the portion expounding on corporate information and statement of corporate governance as well as from the director’s profile. From the study the following were found: Board size has a negative effect on firm performance. An increase in board size will reduce company performance by 2%. This goes to mean that large board size is not good for a company but not significant.
