ABSTRACT

Cybercrimes, simply put, are crimes committed over the internet. Cybercrimes also known as computer crime has increased   in severity and frequency in recent years, and because of this, it has become a major concern for companies, universities and organizations.

Cybercrimes has affected different industries and banking sector   in one of them which have witnessed different forms of cybercrimes like ATM g frauds, phishing, identity theft, email spamming etc. all these forms of cybercrimes has affected the trust in which customers have in the bank.

While cybercrime is a cry real threat, only a minority of consumers are directly victimized. Substantially more are made aware of the threat, and many people remain hesitant to participate online due to the perceived risk of cybercrimes. Cybercrime has gone a long way to affect customer’s trust in the bank. Customers no longer feel side or secure putting or leaving their money in the custody of the bank. Carrying out online transactions and banking manually has been a discouraging factor as far as online banking is concerned due to the non-existing structures made available by the banks to prevent or eradicate cybercrime.

In this project, in particular, we will examine how exposure to cybercrime can lead people to reduce their online participation in baking, commerce in general. We will examine the different types of cybercrimes which plagues the society and the banking sector. And we hope to examine motives of the cyber criminals behind such acts. We also will provide an overview of cybercrime on the banking sector and examine the awareness among different respondents in other to emphasize on the severity of this problem and the urgent need to limit its impact.
