ABSTRACT
This research study examined the effect of covid- 19 on the educational sector: A Case Study of University of Benin. The aim of the study was to understand the negative impact of COVID-19, analyze the effect and identify the changes and opportunities for educational sectors. Anchored on conspiracy theory propounded by K.M Douglas as the theoretical framework of the study, the research adopted descriptive research design to obtain information and employ frequencies and percentages to analyze data. The research unveils that COVID- 19 brings about negative impact on educational sectors, such impact includes suspension of academic activities i.e. lectures, exams, school calendar, extra-curriculum activities. As revealed in the study COVID- 19 did not have only it negative impact on school activities only but also on student academic performances and decrease in staff and student’s population. It was suggested that; Government should see the need to build good schools and equip them with modern digital facilities that can aid online education by providing digital devices as well as internet connections. Government and educational stakeholders must ensure uniformity in curriculum and scheme of work used by teachers from schools to schools at every facet of education. It is the duty of educational inspectors to ensure that teachers and schools adhere strictly to the planned curriculum and scheme of work as online teaching program should also be incorporated into the school timetable.
