ABSTRACT
This study was to investigate the effect of covid-19 induced school lockdown on the teaching and learning of biology. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire, which was developed and administered to 100 SS2 students from five junior secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. The data from their responses were analyzed with the use of simple percentage. The result revealed that the COVID-19 induced lockdown affected most of the students both in the positive and negative way as it helped some to gain more understanding while it hindered the learning ability of some students, online-learning helps students to better manage their time well but students are prone to technical issues associated with online learning e.g. internet connectivity. Online learning is indeed feasible in tertiary institutions, offering significant advantages such as flexibility and accessibility. Furthermore, both teachers and students exhibit a growing acceptance and openness towards online learning as a viable alternative for competency development. It is therefore recommended that Comprehensive digital literacy programs should be implemented for both students and teachers to ensure proficiency in using online platforms and digital tools for effective teaching and learning, Collaborative online platforms and discussion forums should be viii encouraged where students can engage in group discussions, share ideas, and collaborate on biology projects, promoting a sense of community and active participation, government should provide training and professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their online teaching skills, incorporating effective strategies for engaging students, utilizing interactive content and promoting active learning in the virtual classroom.
