ABSTRACT
The effect of Allium cepa extract on cardiometabolic syndrome was evaluated with greater emphasis on its effect on liver enzymes. The subjects were divided into control and test groups. The subjects under the test group were administered Allium cepa extract for a period of 5 weeks. Blood samples were collected from the subjects. The blood samples were used to evaluate the effect Allium cepa had on their liver enzymes. The results obtained revealed that there was a significant (p<0.05) decrease in the level of ALT, AST, TB, CB and TP compared to the control group. There was a significant (p<0.05) increase in the level of ALP compared to the control group, which could be from other factors as ALP is also found in the kidney and bone to mention but a few. From this it can be concluded that Allium cepa has good hepatoprotective qualities, affirming its medicinal effects and is encouraged to be included in man’s diet.
