ABSTRACT
This project thesis on negative consequences of apostacy in Nigeria, this topic is not a popular one amongst artists and there is little awareness in our society. Using art as medium in bringing about change in the society is very important and a practical way to properly relay messages, therefore the need to educate and inform Nigerians cannot be over emphasised a sensitive topic as this needs some light shed on it.
The expression "Apostacy "is a common term ,which is substitute for the phrase "false prophecy ",the painting project was represented in a naturalistic technique, thereby enabling the artist to be able to capture the essence of hypocrisy and dangers of apostacy. During the course of executing this project, it's been observed that the main focus is on a clergyman sited with a skull to draw attention and create emphasis in the contrast between appearance and the heart, this project is an effort to draw attention to the vices and guises of false prophets, by this means, it will attempt to contribute to the awareness against apostacy and perhaps convince the guilty to change. Using random technique the researcher was able to put together this composition with the use of oil on canvas.
This painting project was executed through construction of stretcher, stretching the canvas and priming, it would also capture making of miniature sketch to main canvas. The painting exercise would include various stages and steps and finally detailing of figures. With adherence to the element and principles of design, under the supervision of Prof Imonikebe, the painting would be a success.
