ABSTRACT
This work has been able to examine the impact the economic consequence of the decline of coal production in Enugu state, by first looking at the historical background of the Enugu coal mine; how coal production started in Enugu which later led to the formation of Nigeria Coal Corporation which was incorporated in 1950. This research work went further to examine the management corporation that produced coal, also how the Nigeria Coal Corporation was incorporated in 1950 and how the core domestic market for coal production in Nigeria was emerging into rail system which depended heavily on the produce to power its locomotive engines.3 But with the sudden discovery of hydrocarbons in the late 1950s, the Nigerian Railway Corporation switched from coal to diesel powered energy.
