ABSTRACT

This essay conducts a comparative study of William Wordsworth and Nnimmo Bassey’s poems focusing on their dual vision of nature. The essay employs textual analysis and ecocriticism to explicate the dynamic relationship between ecocriticism and romanticism inherent in their respective poems. The essay relies on Bassey’s collection of poems. We Thought It Was Oil, but I was Blood and Wordsworth’s Lyrical Ballads. The essay concludes that Wordsworth idealises nature through figurative language enriched with visual and auditory images to present an enchanting vision of nature while Bassey’s poems lament the destruction of nature and call for urgent restorative action to improve it.
