ABSTRACT

  The purpose of this study is to find out the causes and effects of indiscipline among public secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Descriptive Survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised of all the 13 public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. A sample of 150 respondents were purposively selected from 3 public secondary schools. A 20-item questionnaire titled "the causes and effects of indiscipline among Students in public secondary school’s questionnaire" was used. 

    The stratified sampling technique was used to select the schools that make up the sample population. Data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed using frequency counts, tables and simple percentage method. The hypothesis was also tested using chi square at 0.05 level of significance.

     The findings of this study revealed that various acts of indiscipline were prevalent among secondary school students. It was also gathered that several factors like the schools, students and the society at large contributed greatly to the acts of indiscipline among the students. The study recommended among other things that parents should create time for their children to create a feeling of bonding and acceptance in them and that there's a need for the school to establish guidance and counseling unit and also create adequate time in the timetable to allow students have adequate time for guidance and counseling.
