ABSTRACT

This study looks into the British encounter with the Benin monarch.

The purpose of this project is to produce a painting giving more insight and expanding knowledge on the relationship between the British and the Benin monarch.

The researcher was able to achieve the composition with the use of oil colors on canvas. This painting project encompasses various stages that include the construction of the stretcher, stretching of the canvas and priming, making of the miniature sketch and transfer of the sketch to the canvas, the painting exercise which involves various steps and stages, and careful detailing.
