ABSTRACT
This study is intended to investigate the effect of potash on the liver, various environmental chemicals and industrial pollutants have useful and harmful potentials. Of intrest in this study is potash which is the common name for various mined and manufactured salts containing potassium in water-soluble forms. This name, is derived from the combination of of words "pot" and "ash", The commercial product produced from sylvinite are referred to as muriate of potash and often symbolized as "k". Potash is also a name given to a naturally occurring reddish coloured mixture of the minerals sylvinite (KCl) and salute (NaCl) that forms a rock called sylvinite. The variable uses of potash have tremendously led to the study of its effect on various body organ,This study therefore is designed to evaluate the effects of potash on Liver function using wistar rat as the animal model. It is palpable from rescent scientific study that there is an increased use of geological mineral substances in Human and animal foods (Aribido et al.., 2001). In nigeria, the renewed government intrest in solid minerals exploration and exploitation may possibly explain the reason for the use of naturally occurring inorganic salts for diverse purposes. While some natural products such as alum were also used in water processing for home and industrial needs. Based on the beneficial effects of these mineral additives (potash) in plant residue and animal nutrient utilization for animal productivity increase have been reported by Harrison et al.., 1985.
