ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research was to visually represent the need to break the cycle of poverty for underprivileged children using Nigeria as a case study. The project was to produce a painting expanding the knowledge of it's viewers about the beckons for change. Over the years, numerous artists have attempted to represent this topic through a diverse array of artistic styles, including realism, impressionism, expressionism, and  abstract art. However, these artists have often depicted the issue through their own lenses, reflecting their unique perspectives on unemployment and poverty within their respective environments and countries. As a result, these artworks may not fully capture the African or Nigerian perspective on this matter. Making use of art as a potent medium for driving social and economic change within society, these artistic endeavors have occasionally fallen short of their intended goals. Some non-Africans may not have been entirely persuaded by these artists' interpretations, thereby remaining unreceptive to the insights presented in these paintings. Consequently, a gap in understanding persists, hindering the broader dissemination of awareness. The researcher undertook the task of crafting this composition using acrylic colors on canvas. The process encompassed several essential steps, including the construction of a stretcher, the meticulous stretching of the canvas, and the crucial priming phase. The creation of a miniature sketch and its subsequent transfer to the main canvas were also integral components of this painting project. The execution involved a series of stages and meticulous steps, culminating in the intricate detailing of figures within the artwork. Throughout this creative process, adherence to the fundamental elements and principles of design remained paramount Being adherent to the element and principles of design, under the supervision of Prof. Imonikebe, the painting project was a success.
