ABSTRACT
The study shows the awareness and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in shelving and shelf reading routines in University of Benin Main Library and Sub-Libraries and is aimed to know the media through which librarians are made aware of AI, the extent of its use in shelving and shelf-reading routines by librarians, library users, its perception, the merits, demerits and cost implications of adopting AI. The study made use of 150 questionnaires which were distributed to users and staff of the library and data generated were computed and analyzed using simple percentage. The study revealed that respondents are aware of the use of AI and make use of it to a large extent. The study also showed that respondents think that AI‟s use in library routines will be advantageous and hence, acknowledged that the cost implications of AI in Libraries is high.
