ABSTRACT
This study was designed to identify the attitude of female students toward the
study of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Egor Local government area of
Edo State. The research was carried out as a survey research using relevant
literature from journals, magazines, books and the internet. Four research
questions were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study.
A stratified random sampling technique was used in selection of one
hundred chemistry students from 5 senior secondary schools in Egor Local
government area of Edo State. The data were collected with questionnaire
instrument and analyzed using simple percentage.
The result revealed that; the female students in the study area has
negative attitude towards the study of chemistry, the factors that could increase
the study of chemistry among female students include the sex of the chemistry
teacher, the allocated time of chemistry class on the school timetable, the
teaching method and parental encouragements, boys shows more positive attitude
towards the study of chemistry than the girls, and teachers are major catalyst to
improving the attitude of the girl child towards the study of chemistry.
