ABSTRACT
Due to the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, wearing of face masks has become a routine and safe practice to reduce the spread of the disease as declared by WHO. However, till date where there is no proven pharmaceutical cure to the virus, preventive measures has become a first line tool to fight the virus, making face mask to be a routine practice for the foreseeable future. Studies have shown that there is a possible relationship between improper facemask usage and Dry Eye Disease (DED), especially when worn for an extended time. Patients with and without history of Dry Eye Diseases are presenting to the clinic with symptoms, which has significantly reduced their quality of life, making it a public health issue that needs adequate intervention. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between improper and prolong face mask usage to dry eyes disease. This is prospective cohort study, by evaluating participants who routinely wear face mask for at least 5 hours per day. All participants was assessed at initial clinical admission at T1 and T3, thereafter divided into two groups; of 5 days of at least 5 hours of consistent daily face mask wear with the open upper portion of the mask taped down at T2 and without cabeau tape at T4.
