THE ACTORS AS THE VEHICLES OF THE PLAYWRIGHT’S THOUGHT

Abstract

In the realm of theatre, which is indeed complex, actors become the ‘living’ tools through which the playwright’s deep thoughts, emotions, and storytelling are conveyed. They are like the highly skilled artisans, who, considering the characters designed by the playwrights, bring them to life with rich psychology and sincere behaviour. Through every single line that is being uttered and every particular gesture made the actors embody the playwright’s intentions. In this way these written words get transformed into very present experiences for the audience. Through their performances, experienced actors build a bridge between the text and the stage, and make the poem spring to life with wholeness and intensity. They play different and challenging roles of human feelings from joy to sorrow, from love to hate, or from glory to failure, as the director required. The power of the word is oftentimes portrayed by the actors who not only possess but also have a strong ability to capture, affect, and transport viewers into the essence of what a playwright wanted to convey by way of his/her story-telling. On the stage their art operates, where playwright and actor jointly build the imagery to describe the realities of people’s lives and actors offer the audience a deep look into the souls of people.
