THE ACTOR AS AN INSTRUMENT OF SOCIAL CHANGE

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to illustrate the significant role of actors in driving social change, using the example of Temi Otedola's portrayal of 'Moremi' in Kunle Afolayan's 'Citation'. The primary objective of this study is to explore the actor's duty in promoting social transformation and to analyze the potential of actors and films as catalysts for social change. The research delves deep into the actor's societal role and its impact on shaping social progress. The study involves a thorough content analysis of the film 'Citation,' focusing on how the actors within the film and the film itself can act as agents of social change. The film addresses numerous pressing social issues such as the pursuit of justice, sexual harassment, rape, abuse of power, and more. It serves as a reminder to actors that they possess the potential to effect positive change within society, while also serving as a warning to those engaged in corruption, injustice, and immoral behavior that they may face exposure through the efforts of actors. Ultimately, the study envisions a transformation of our society towards greater morality and positive values. This study holds great importance as it calls upon actors to remain committed to addressing critical societal issues through their performances, aiming for positive societal change.
