TETFUND AND REDUCTION IN INFRASTRUCTURAL DEFICIT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN (2011-2022)

ABSTRACT

The study was designed to appraise TETFund’s intervention in the reduction of infrastructural deficit in the University of Benin between 2011 and 2022. The main objective of the study is to examine the role of TETFUND in reducing infrastructural deficit in the University of Benin. Other specific objectives include to; examine the level of collaboration that exist between TETFund and the University of Benin in improving infrastructure in the University within the period under review, examine whether or not the intervention of TETFUND has been able to improve physical infrastructure in the University of Benin within the peroid under review, and examine whether or not the intervention of TETFUND has been able to increase the availability of instructional materials and equipment in the University of Benin within the period under review. The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 58 staff at the TETFUND office, Academic Planning, Works, and Procurement departments in the University of Benin. The sample size for this study was 50 respondents which was drawn from the population of the study. The instrument used for the collection of data was the questionnaire which was administered to the study sampled respondents. Out of the 50 questionnaires administered, 47 copies were retrieved. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentage and Chi-Square analytical method to test the hypotheses generated for the study through SPSS 21. The study revealed amongst others that, the effectiveness of TETFund has been hampered by bureaucratic inefficiencies and a lack of transparency in fund allocation. The study therefore concluded while TETFund's intention to mitigate infrastructural deficits at the University of Benin is commendable, the actual impact has been limited and often superficial. Finally, the study made some recommendations one of which includes; The University of Benin should prioritize developing a comprehensive strategic plan for infrastructure development that aligns with its academic and operational goals.
