ABSTRACT

This study examined teenage pregnancy and its perceived effect on the educational development of teenagers in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. This research adopted descriptive survey design, the population of the study consisted of five selected secondary schools in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. A sample of one fifty randomly selected students was used for the study. The research instrument used to collect data for the study was a structured questionnaire, the validity of the instrument was ascertained by the researcher's supervisor and the data collected through the use of the questionnaire were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. The findings from the study indicate that pregnant school girls are not able to cope with school academic demand and teenage pregnacy is also a threat to the collective performance of the class as well affect the economic stability of pregnant school girls and it was recommended that sensitization program should be initiated by relevant bodies to educate the populace on the impact of teenage pregnancies and school-based daycare facilities should be provided for soon to be/already teenage parents.
