ABSTRACT

Scale formation in oil and gas production systems is a ubiquitous challenge, particularly in the Niger Delta region, where unique geological and hydro-chemical conditions exist. This project aims to establish technical screening criteria for identifying and mitigating scale formation in this critical energy-producing region. The study employs the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) and Ryznar Saturation Index (RSI) as primary tools for assessing the potential of different scale formation. In this research, mineralogical data from various oil and gas production facilities in the Niger Delta were collected and analysed. These data were subjected to comprehensive geochemical modelling, utilizing the LSI and RSI, to evaluate the scaling potential of different scale formations such as BaSo4, CaSo4, SrSo4, etc. The study also considered the influence of varying operational conditions and chemical treatment methods on scale formation tendencies.
