ABSTRACT

This research study examining teaching strategies and learning style in public primary school in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, to guide the study, four research questions were raised which are outlined thus: What are the teaching strategies employed by teacher in primary school in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State? Does combination of teaching strategies enhance better performance of pupils in examinations? To what extent has the learning styles used by the teachers helped to improve learning in pupil’s in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State? What are the hindrances to the learning styles in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State? The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining questionnaires administered to 134 pupils. The Data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed using Descriptive statistics, percentage. The data collected for the study was analyzed using frequency tables and simple percentages. Its reliability was established at 0.803 using the Cronbach Alpha method. Thus, based on the findings of the study, it was seen that the respondents agree teachers give students opportunity to participate in classroom activities. It was revealed that teachers start explaining from specific to complex. It was also seen that teachers let the students to do the activities on their own, and let them learn by doing, some of the recommendations suggested by the researcher Teachers should use multi –sensory aid as a combination method of teaching for a better performance of students. Teachers should use centered teaching and directions of teaching to enhance student assimilation.
